The second edition of the LSM Cup, organized by the Louvain School of Management and Louvain School of Management Conseil, was held on Friday 15th & Saturday 16th of March 2013, at the prestigious Aula Magna in Louvain-La-Neuve.
With numbers which have made the LSM Cup the biggest socially oriented business game in Europe, the second edition of this business game aimed to sensitize students to develop socially responsible answers to business problems. Following a successful first edition, we are thrilled to announce that this second edition. This two day event brought together 200 third year Bachelor students and Master students, Academics, Professors of the CSR Louvain Network and representatives of major firms. We were proud to welcome eminent firms such as Total, BNP Paribas Fortis, Belgacom, la Société Wallonne Des Eaux, as well as Spadel and Ethicable.
How did it take place?
During this inter-faculty and multidisciplinary competition, all teams of 4 students had to solve four challenges proposed by the sponsors present during the event.
They began the competition by facing a first challenge in Strategy, proposed by la Société Wallonne Des Eaux, before taking on Belgacom’s Supply Chain challenge. The following day, they tackled the Finance challenge proposed by BNP Paribas Fortis, and finally, a Marketing challenge presented by Total. The socially responsible aspect was developed in both the construction of the cases and the resolution constraints imposed on the teams. Each group then defended its solutions in front of a jury Emeritus.
Why a business game?
A Business Game allows students to apply their knowledge to real case studies offered by the corporate sponsors. These companies are doubly privileged: not only do they have interesting solution projects provided by the participating teams, but they also develop a privileged contact with the students for the recruitment. In addition, the university increases its visibility and prestige thanks to the organization of these highlight events.
A vision - Corporate social responsibility
Two characteristics made the 2013 event an exceptional contest.
The first is based on the values of the LSM, "Ethics in Business" and its vision of the training of leaders focused on increasing their awareness of the impact of their actions on their environment. Both elements turn this contest into a place of mutual enrichment based on the exchange of experiences and innovating ideas. Through the workshops offered by the companies or through the dinners and cocktails, the meeting between the vision of the management of corporate executives and the vision of the students, is encouraged.
The second is social responsibility, which has in recent years become a major concern for companies wishing to reconcile responsible growth and sustainability of the organization. Social responsibility is a mode of operation that does not only consider the economic aspect of the company but also its social and environmental impact.
What do the challengers have to say?
"After several participations in different major business games, we decided to subscribe to the LSM cup 2013. We have to say that we really enjoyed it and were impressed that in two years, the LSM Conseil managed to implement a leading CSR oriented business game with major partners. Indeed, the organization was really professional, the case studies and the workshops were really interesting. Throughout four challenges, students were able to demonstrate their hard and soft skills in front of highly qualified jury members by solving real cases faced by the companies. The level of competition and the amazing prizes motivated us to tackle those challenges. During this two days event, we had the opportunity to meet many interesting and motivated students from different universities. This business game is the perfect place for us to discover more deeply the partners companies and also to get in touch with their employees. Moreover, it is a unique opportunity for companies to discover and attract young talented individuals. We strongly recommend this event to every student who wants to improve their practical skills and live an amazing experience".
