The philosopher’s latest brainchild, promisingly named Marnix (Plan), will think outside the academic box. Its raison d’être encompasses not only language and culture, but also ethics and commitment.
For too long, too many have taken for granted that Brussels is a multilingual city, but now is the time to implement effective strategies to turn the European capital’s ethnic salad bowl into a multicultural melting-pot through early language learning and the mobilization of the media. To this end, the Marnix Plan aims to promote socially responsible citizenship in the service of multilingualism so as to foster mutual understanding and better job opportunities.
But at the end of the day – literally – action will always speak louder than words, albeit in French, Dutch or English. Our visitor is hoping that his words will move a few of us into meaningful action.
