MUN Simulation at the ILV

ILV Louvain-La-Neuve, Mons

On Monday, November 3rd, seven UCL students and members of LouvainMUN (Model United Nations) presented the working of the UN and the MUN in particular. This presentation served as preparation for the class debates that took place in the four groups of LANGL 1531 (SPO 13 BA) one week later.

After a brief introduction to the United Nations as an institution, the so-called “rules of procedure” were explained, which are the protocol to be respected when a country delegate wants to take the floor. For instance, the personal pronoun “I” cannot be used, under any circumstances. After that, the human rights situation in the Palestinian Occupied Territories was introduced as the case study for the classroom debates that would be taking place one week later. Each student of every group was given a country that he or she had to represent. The attendees were subsequently asked to carefully prepare the sessions that would be taking place during the week of 10th November.
