The recent elections of Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron seem to question the contemporary relevance of the left-right divide as an analytical grid. I would like to 1) insist on the analytical importance of this divide and 2) put forward three other dividing lines that should be taken into account in order to reach a more fine-grained analysis of the main contemporary national political conflicts: "values", openness to immigration and willingness to govern.
