UCL maintains 25 technology platforms with a variety of expertise and resources. Their role is to provide the research institutes with technical and administrative staff and research equipment (e.g. analysis or mechanical testing laboratory, archives, IT services). The platforms support the institutes in a cross-disciplinary manner but can also support university teaching activities and community action. Structurally, they can be integrated into an institute, co-managed by several institutes, or remain independent.
