- The Pole of Medical Microbiology is involved in several research areas (see Research and Development).
- The Pole of Medical Microbiology manages several laboratories and four national reference centers in microbiology, two of which are in collaboration with another institution :
- HIV
- Clostridium difficile
- Yersinia (in collaboration with KUL)
- Borrelia (in collaboration with KUL)
- The Pole of Medical Microbiology also hosts a research group on mycobacteria and tuberculosis :
- Mycobacterium tuberculosis
- Non tubercoulous mycobacteria (NTM)

Dr. Alexia Verroken - The Pole of Medical Microbiology are accredited to ISO 15189 under Accreditation Certificate N°106-MED (Belac).
- The Pole of Medical Microbiology works closely with the Medical Microbiology Department of the Saint-Luc University Clinics, which includes a number of national reference centers :
- CNR Viral hepatitis B and C in collaboration with ISP. The CNR is accredited to ISO 15189 under accreditation certificate 369-MED
- CNR Bartonella henselae - Coxiella burnetti in collaboration with the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp and COD-CERVA

- The Microbiology Laboratory at the CHU Godinne also includes a number of national reference centers :
