Master of environmental science and management

Helping solve environmental problems and guiding choices and actions in support of sustainable development and working toward making them a reality – this requires a solid command and proper integration of the field’s scientific, technical, economic, legal, demographic and political aspects.

The objective of the interdisciplinary master’s programme in environmental science and management is to train future professionals who can :

  • collaborate with all relevant actors ;
  • systematically approach and sensibly manage environmental problems by integrating all necessary factors and dimensions: scientific, economic, ethical, social and technical ;
  • develop a comprehensive vision of all ‘ecosystem-social system’ interactions and draw from them the necessary synergies to take action.

This master’s programme opens the way not only to environmental careers; it produces highly adaptable graduates who find employment in companies, think tanks, NGOs and associations (from regional to international), government (from local to international) and education. Their activity is primarily in the tertiary and consulting sectors, followed by the secondary sector (production and processing) and, to a lesser extent, primary industry.

Master in Agriculture and Bio-industries

The master in Agriculture and Bio-industries develops the capacity to:

  • analyse and assess agricultural problems;
  • understand processes on diverse scales and in a multidisciplinary way;
  • manage integrated projects in collaboration with other experts.

It educates graduates who can think critically about and make use of a body of knowledge and know-how in agricultural sciences and economics for the purpose of formulating, analysing and solving a problem of a multidisciplinary nature.

Upon completing the master’s programme, you will be able to :

  • design innovative technological and scientific solutions for developing products, process systems or services relevant to the field;
  • communicate, converse and present arguments in French and English;
  • develop socially responsible professional practices and address social issues;
  • design relevant technological and scientific solutions.

The master’s programme imparts basic knowledge and skills and offers course options at UCL and a partner university.

If you are selected, your participation in the AFEPA (Agricultural, Food and Environmental Policy Analysis) interuniversity programme can lead to earning a master of agricultural sciences and bioindustries degree in conjunction with a second master’s awarded by a partner university upon successful completion of sufficient credits at the latter.
