Prof. Thonnard's
research interests focus on a better comprehension of the complex interaction
between feedforward and feedback mechanisms in precise manipulative tasks. He
is also interested in studying the role of these mechanisms in the impaired
dexterity of patients with neurological disturbances, as well as in
microgravity experiments. Moreover, he is using the Rasch model to develop and
validate new outcome measures in Rehabilitation and most particularly ABILHAND,
a manual ability scale
(http://www.rehab-scales.org
)
. He is a partner
in two EU projects: NanoBioTact and NanoBioTouch. Professor Thonnard currently
supervises a team of 8 PhD students and postdocs. He is the head of the
division Systems and Cognition of the Institute of Neuroscience (IoNS) at UCL.
